Sejarah - Historia Vitae Magistra

Historia Vitae Magistra =  The exprience is the best teacher (master).

Secara sempit, sejarah yaitu sebuah peristiwa manusia yang bersumber dari realisasi diri, kebebasan dan keputusan daya rohani dan secara luas, pengertian sejarah yakni setiap peristiwa atau kejadian.

Sejarah adalah kumpulan catatan tentang peristiwa di masa lampau, studi tentang sebab dan akibat. Dan kita pun secara sadar dan tidak sadar sedang mencatat sejarah sendiri yaitu, “sejarah kita adalah cerita hidup kita.”

Bahkan sejarah nilainya amatlah penting dalam kehidupan suatu bangsa karena:

1.    Sejarah merupakan deskripsi atau gambaran tentang kehidupan masyarakat yang pernah terjadi di masa – masa lampau

2.    Dengan melihat ke belekang dan menengok kepada sejarah, kita dapat lebih mengetahui peristiwa atau kejadian yang pernah terjadi pada masa lampau.

3.    Peristiwa – peristiwa yang terjadi di masa lampau tersebut dapat dijadikan pedoman dan juga sebagai acuan dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat dan berbangsa di masa kini dan untuk masa datang yang akan kita songsong atau sambut sebagai kesempatan mengukir sejarah yang lebih baik.

Dan dengan sejarah, kita tidak hanya sekedar mengingat data-data dan fakta-fakta yang ada tetapi lebih bijak jika kita memaknainya dengan mengetahui mengapa peristiwa tersebut terjadi dan apa hikmah dibalik semua kejadian itu.

Bila Secara etimologi, pengertian sejarah yang asal katanya Sejarah diambil dari berbagai macam istilah yang diantaranya sbb:

1.    Kata sejarah dalam bahasa Inggris yaitu History yang artinya masa lalu atau masa lampau umat manusia yang pernah terjadi.

2.    Kata sejarah dalam bahasa Belanda yaitu Geschiedenis, yang berarti terjadi. Kejadiannya di masa lampau.

3.    Kata sejarah dalam bahasa Jerman, yaitu Geschichte berarti sesuatu yang telah terjadi. Peristiwa yang terjadi di masa lampau.

4.    Kata sejarah dalam bahasa Arab yaitu syajaratun artinya pohon. Mereka mengenal juga kata syajarah annasab, artinya pohon silsilah. Pohon dalam hal ini dihubungkan dengan keturunan atau asal usul keluarga raja atau dinasti tertentu. Hal ini dijadikan elemen utama dalam kisah sejarah pada masa awal. Kenapa dikatakan sebagai pohon, karena pohon akan terus tumbuh dan berkembang dari tingkat yang sederhana ke tingkat yang lebih kompleks (maju). Hakikatnya tiada lain yaitu sejarah ibarat sebuah pohon yang terus berkembang mulai dari akar sampai ke ranting yang terkecil.

5.    Kata History sebenarnya berasal dari Bahasa Latin dan Yunani yaitu Historia yang artinya informasi atau pencarian dan juga dapat pula diartikan Ilmu.

Jadi sejarah dapat dikatan sebagai suatu ilmu pengetahuan tentang masa lampau yang dapat dipetik atau diambil hikmah dari kejadiannya untuk dijadikan referensi dalam rangka mencapai dan menata kehidupan yang lebih baik kedepannya karena sejarah sebagai guru atau pengalaman terbaik yang pernah ada (terjadi), maka sejarah dapat dijadikan sebagai tolok-ukur dalam mengambil keputusan – keputusan di masa mendatang. Tiap kejadian ada sebabnya, tiap kejadian menimbulkan akibat dan tiap sebab-akibat menuliskan dan mengukir sejarahnya sendiri sambil mengabarkan hikmah-hikmah dibalik peristiwa tersebut baik tersirat maupun tersurat jikalau kita merenungi dan menghayatinya sebagai suatu hikmah sebagi pembelajaran dari Tuhan untuk manusia. Tepatlah apabila ada peribahasa “we learan in life as long as we take a breath”.

Narrowly, history is an event of human that comes from self-realization, freedom and spiritual power and decision broadly, understanding their history, every event or incident.

History is a collection of notes about the events in the past, the study of cause and effect. And we consciously and unconsciously being recorded history itself is, "our history is the story of our lives."

Even the historical value is very important in the life of a nation because:

1.    History is a description or picture of community life that has ever happened in the past time.

2.    By looking into the past time and turned to the histtory, we can be better know the event or events that have occurred in the past.

3.    Events that happened in the past time that can be used as guidelines and also as a reference in the life of society and nation in the present and for the future that we will welcome it as an opportunity to fill or carve a better history.

And by history, we not only remember the datas and facts are there but more wisely if we use to know why the incident occurred and what was the wisdom behind it all.

In Etymologically, understanding the history of the origin of said history was taken from a variety of terms that include the following:

1.    The word history in the History of the English language meaning of the past or the past time of mankind that has ever happened.

2.    Words in Dutch history is Geschiedenis, which means there. It happened in the past time.

3.    The word in German history, namely Geschichte means something that has happened. Events that occurred in the past time.

4.    History of the word in Arabic which means syajaratun tree. They knew also said syajarah annasab, meaning tree. Trees in this case is connected with the descendants of the royal family or origin or a particular dynasty. It is used as the main element in the story of history in the early days. Why is said to be a tree, because trees will continue to grow and develop from the simple to more complex levels (advanced). Essentially no other history is like a tree growing from the roots up to the smallest twigs.

5.    History The word actually comes from Latin and Greek the Historia, which means information or search and also can be interpreted as a sciences.

So history can be classiffied as a science about the past time that can be picked  up or taken lessons from what happened to be referenced in order to achieve and set a better life in the future because as a teacher of history or experience the best that ever existed (the case), then the history can be as a benchmark in decision making - decisions in the future. Each event there is why, each and every event consequences of causation write and carve out its own history while preaching the wisdom of wisdom behind such events either express or implied if we reflect on and live it as a lesson as a lesson from God to human beings. Is appropriate when there is the saying "we learn in life as long as we take a breath".
